PROFILING

PROFILING

IN MY OPINION

I believe that I was profiled the other morning while traveling on Interstate 95, (aka: the drug pipeline) near Daytona. It was about 6:30 am on Tuesday, March the 25th. I was taking my granddaughter to school in Palm Coast, when the blue lights came on behind me. I pulled off the road and got my driver’s license, registration and insurance card ready to show the officer that stopped me. He approached on the passenger side of the car (?) and my granddaughter rolled down the window. He looked in the car at us, saw her school bag and laptop in the rear seat, while another officer approached, looking in thru the rear window. The first officer advised me that I was speeding a little, but he was not worried about that… (umm, okay?) He also told me that I had changed lanes without signaling, which to my surprise is apparently a Florida law and is considered dangerous not to signal. He was very professional and polite. He told me to be careful, never asked to see my driver’s license or papers, and that was it. It was a strange 4 or so minutes.

IN MY OPINION

I think that I met the profile of a drug dealer running pills and whatever other illegal items drug dealers often sneak out of Florida. I was on Interstate 95 in a late model, black sedan, with very dark window tinting, driving fast and changing lanes without a signal. Both of those offenses would have given the officer the right to pull me over. After he approached the car, saw my granddaughter and I and her school bag in the rear seat, calling on his experience and training, he decided I was no threat and let me go. So, like I said, the total thing took about 4 minutes.

I applaud our State and Local Police in their use of whatever is needed (such as profiling) to keep us safe and control traffic and crime.

As a civilized nation we can’t lose focus on what our police, under sometimes severe circumstances, must go through to perform their duty. We shouldn’t let a few bullying incidents that are almost always exploited by the media’s insatiable desire to inflame the public and stereotype our policemen as the bad guys, change our opinion and perspective on our law enforcement, whose true priority it is to serve and protect us.

Easter Story

Easter Story
Allen Meets Jesus
By Toni Smothers

I was running some errands in town yesterday when I came across a mentally challenged young man named Tim. Everyone around knew him. He was usually a very cordial young man – just a bit simple.

Tim was swinging a picnic basket as he walked. “Going on a picnic Tim,” I asked.

“Nope, caught me a bunch of baby chicks; want’a see?” On the bottom of the basket, there were three little, dainty, trembling, yellow chicks looking near scared to death.

I stopped Tim and asked him, “What are you going to do with those little fellas Tim?”

“Take ‘em to my house to play,” he answered. “I’m gonna see if they can roll around, maybe … or pull some of those pretty, fluffy feathers out to play with. I dunno, play some fun games with ’em. I’m gonna have lots of fun with ’em I bet.”

“Don’t you think they might get hurt Tim? What will you do if you hurt them by accident?”

“Oh, I won’t do that. Besides, they’re just plain little chicks. Who cares about plain ole chicks?” said the simple boy. “What’s the difference? They ain’t good for nothing and they mostly die anyway.”

I tried to think of what to say to Tim to make him give me those chicks. “Want to make a trade, Tim?”

“Huh??!!! Why? You don’t want them chicks. They’re just plain ole chicks. They don’t do anything but poop and they’re all skinny and little.”

“How about it?” I asked again. “I’ll trade you an ice-cream cone for them.”

“Really? Boy, I sure would like an ice-cream cone!” Tim said as he handed over the basket.

I went with him a few blocks to the ice-cream store and bought him his cone. He was happily licking his treat as he walked away – all thought of the little chicks totally forgotten.

I carried them back to the nearest farm down the road, and sure enough, there were several adult chickens squawking about. I carefully placed each chick on the other side of the fence, pretty certain that was their home. I was their hero; the little chicks were free and all it cost me was an ice-cream cone.

I couldn’t help telling the story to my seven-year-old son, Allen, because I thought there was a good lesson to be learned from the story of Tim and the chicks. Jesus set us free too – but instead of an ice-cream cone, He paid for our freedom with His life. So after supper, when bedtime rolled along, I scooped my son up into my lap and said, “How’d you like to hear a little story?”

“Sure,” he replied excitedly. Allen always loves to hear a good story.

First I showed him the basket and told him about Tim and the chicks. After that I really had Allen’s attention, so I wanted to take the opportunity to teach him something deeper than just my saving some chicks at a pretty cheap price. So, I made up a parallel story to teach him a little bit more about our real Savior.

I began, “One day a mean and dangerous man named Sin and a rather gentle young man named Purity were having a conversation. Sin had just come from abusing a young family and was bragging. “What fun – I just caught the boy by the ankle and caused him to break his leg. I got the Dad while he was running to help his boy. He tripped over the skate in the driveway and busted up his nose and chin pretty bad. Then, the best part of all, the young mother flew out the front door across the yard and tripped on a rock. She hurt her hip, but the best, best part is, she’s pregnant, so – you guessed it… She’s definitely going to lose her unborn baby! Got ‘a love it! That was really fun.”

“Why’d you want to do all those cruel things,” Purity asked?

Sin answered with a snicker, “Oh, I’m not done with them! I’m gonna teach them, and lots of others too, how to ruin their marriages, how to belittle each other and be prejudiced and backstabbing. I’ll teach them about war and revenge and pain. Let them be burdened with addiction to all kinds of harmful substances. I’ll make sure they learn how to kill each other, maybe even start a war or two. I’m really gonna have fun!”

“And what will you do when you get done with them?” Purity asked.

“Oh, I’ll torture some of them … kill all of them for sure,” Sin boasted.

“What can I do to make you stop?” Purity asked.

“Oh, why should you care about those people? They‘re absolutely no good and never will be. Why, I’ve already made most of them hateful. They’ll just hate you, spit on you, curse and kill you. You don’t have any reason to want those people!!”

“What can I trade you that you will accept?” He asked again.

Sin looked at Purity and got really mad. “You’re a fool – give me your life if you want to be the big hero! And be sure that if you agree, you will die very painfully!”

Purity said, “I agree. It is finished!”

“Eventually He paid up and died a terrible death on the cross, just like Jesus did for us.” I told Allen.

I picked up the basket that held those little chicks. We both looked inside, and it was empty. “Those little chicks are free, just like us sweetie.” I said.

“I sure hope Purity didn’t really die.” The concern in Allen’s voice was very real.

“Oh, but that’s what the story is all about, Allen. Purity is just a story name. He’s just like Jesus, who really did die for us. He protected us from Sin and saved us with his own life.”

A tiny tear rolled down Allen’s sweet cheek. “I think Jesus is my best friend.”

“Mine too.” I said.
***

Let’s all try to start this New Year remembering that Jesus truly wants to be our very best friend. He is as close to us as our own breath. His love is always available and each and every one of His beloved family, which means you and me, are so important to Him that He gave His very life to prove it.

I hope that you all had a Blessed Easter and that you will have a Spirit-filled New Year!

What is the Trinity

What is the Trinity?
by Matt Slick
About The Author
Matt Slick is the President and Founder of the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry.

The word “trinity” is a term used to denote the Christian doctrine that God exists as a unity of three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each of the persons is distinct from the other yet identical in essence. In other words, each is fully divine in nature, but each is not the totality of the other persons of the Trinity. Each has a will, loves, and says “I” and “You” when speaking. The Father is not the same person as the Son, who is not the same person as the Holy Spirit, and who is not the same person as the Father. Each is divine, yet there are not three gods but one God. There are three individual subsistences or persons. The word “subsistence” means something that has a real existence. The word “person” denotes individuality and self-awareness. The Trinity is three of these though the latter term has become the dominant one used to describe the individual aspects of God known as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Included in the doctrine of the Trinity is a strict monotheism which is the teaching that there exists in all the universe a single being known as God who is self-existent and unchangeable (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6, 8). Therefore, it is important to note that the doctrine of the trinity is not polytheistic as some of its critics proclaim. Trinitarianism is monotheistic by definition, and those who claim it is polytheistic demonstrate a lack of understanding of what it really is.

The Trinity
God is three persons.
Each person is divine.
There is only one God.
Many theologians admit that the term “person” is not a perfect word to describe the three individual aspects/foci found in God. When we normally use the word person, we understand it to mean physical individuals who exist as separate beings from other individuals. But in God there are not three entities nor three beings. God is a trinity of persons consisting of one substance and one essence. God is numerically one. Yet, within the single divine essence are three individual subsistences that we call persons.

Each of the three persons is completely divine in nature though each is not the totality of the Godhead.
Each of the three persons is not the other two persons.
Each of the three persons is related to the other two but are distinct from them.
The word “trinity” is not found in the Bible, but this does not mean that the concept is not taught there. The word “bible” is not found in the Bible either, but we use it anyway. Likewise, the words “omniscience,” which means “all-knowing,” “omnipotence,” which means “all-powerful,” and “omnipresence,” which means “present everywhere” are not found in the Bible either; but we use these words to describe the attributes of God. So, to say that the Trinity isn’t true because the word isn’t in the Bible is an invalid argument.

Is there subordination in the Trinity?
There is, apparently, a subordination within the Trinity regarding order but not substance or essence. We can see that the Father is first, the Son is second, and the Holy Spirit is third. The Father is not begotten, but the Son is (John 3:16). The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father (John 15:26). The Father sent the Son (1 John 4:10). The Son and the Father send the Holy Spirit (John 14:26; 15:26). The Father creates (Isaiah 44:24), the Son redeems (Gal. 3:13), and the Holy Spirit sanctifies (Rom. 15:16).

This subordination of order does not mean that each of the members of the Godhead are not equal or divine. For example, we see that the Father sent the Son, but this does not mean that the Son is not equal to the Father in essence and divine nature. The Son is equal to the Father in his divinity but inferior in his humanity. A wife is to be subject to her husband; but this does not negate her humanity, essence, or equality. By further analogy, a king and his servant both share human nature. Yet, the king sends the servant to do his will. Jesus said, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me” (John 6:38). Of course Jesus already is King; but the analogy shows that because someone is sent, it doesn’t mean they are different from the one who sent him.

Critics of the Trinity will see this subordination as proof that the Trinity is false. They reason that if Jesus were truly God, then He would be completely equal to God the Father in all areas and would not, therefore, be subordinate to the Father in any way; but this objection is not logical. If we look at the analogy of the king and the servant, we certainly would not say that the servant was not human because he was sent. Being sent does not negate sameness in essence. Therefore, the fact that the Son is sent does not mean that He is not divine any more than when my wife sends me to get bread, I am not human.

Is this confusing?
Another important point about the Trinity is that it can be a difficult concept to grasp, but this does not necessitate an argument against its validity. On the contrary, the fact that it is difficult is an argument for its truth. The Bible is the self-revelation of an infinite God. Therefore, we are bound to encounter concepts which are difficult to understand–especially when dealing with an incomprehensible God who exists in all places at all times. So, when we view descriptions and attributes of God manifested in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we discover that a completely comprehensible and understandable explanation of God’s essence and nature is not possible. What we have done, however, is derive from the Scripture the truths that we can grasp and combine them into the doctrine we call The Trinity. The Trinity is, to a large extent, a mystery. After all, we are dealing with God Himself.

It is the way of the cults to reduce biblical truth to make God comprehensible and understandable by their minds. To this end, they subject God’s word to their own reasoning and end in error. The following verses are often used to demonstrate that the doctrine of the Trinity is indeed biblical:

Matt. 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
1 Cor. 12:4-6, “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6And there are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.”
2 Cor. 13:14, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.”
Eph. 4:4-7, “There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. 7But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.”
1 Pet. 1:2, “according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood: May grace and peace be yours in fullest measure.”
Jude 20-21, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith; praying in the Holy Spirit; 21keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.”

HOLY WEEK

HOLY WEEK

Holy Week begins this morning with the observance of Palm Sunday, when Christians carry palm branches to recall the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem before his crucifixion. Palm Sunday begins the most holy week on the Christian liturgical calendar, leading to Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Most Christians will celebrate Easter this year on Sunday, April 5.

The Gospel of Matthew
Matthew 26:14-27:66English Standard Version (ESV)

JUDAS TO BETRAY JESUS
14 Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.

The Passover with the Disciples
17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’” 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover.

20 When it was evening, he reclined at table with the twelve.[a] 21 And as they were eating, he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” 22 And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?” 23 He answered, “He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” 25 Judas, who would betray him, answered, “Is it I, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You have said so.”

Institution of the Lord’s Supper
26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Jesus Foretells Peter’s Denial
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” 33 Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” 34 Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” 37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch[c] with me.” 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words again. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep and take your rest later on.[d] See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
47 While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.” 49 And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him. 50 Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.”[e] Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him. 51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck the servant[f] of the high priest and cut off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” 55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. 56 But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.

Jesus Before Caiaphas and the Council
57 Then those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 And Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council[g] were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward 61 and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’” 62 And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[h] 63 But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What is your judgment?” They answered, “He deserves death.” 67 Then they spit in his face and struck him. And some slapped him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?”

Peter Denies Jesus
69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.” 71 And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.” 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.” 74 Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

Jesus Delivered to Pilate
27 When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. 2 And they bound him and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate the governor.

Judas Hangs Himself
3 Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus[i] was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” 5 And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself. 6 But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.” 7 So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers. 8 Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9 Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, 10 and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”

Jesus Before Pilate
11 Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.” 12 But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. 13 Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” 14 But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.

The Crowd Chooses Barabbas
15 Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted. 16 And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. 17 So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” 18 For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up. 19 Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.” 20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!” 23 And he said, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified
24 So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood;[j] see to it yourselves.” 25 And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” 26 Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged[k] Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.

Jesus Is Mocked
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters,[l] and they gathered the whole battalion[m] before him. 28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him.

The Crucifixion
32 As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross. 33 And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34 they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35 And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots. 36 Then they sat down and kept watch over him there. 37 And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” 38 Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. 39 And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42 “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

The Death of Jesus
45 Now from the sixth hour[n] there was darkness over all the land[o] until the ninth hour.[p] 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.

51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son[q] of God!”

55 There were also many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him, 56 among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

Jesus Is Buried
57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.

The Guard at the Tomb
62 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63 and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard[r] of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.

The Palms

Palms were a symbol of royalty and nobility in Jesus’ day. Those welcoming him to Jerusalem expected a messiah who might overthrow the Romans. The palm is a symbol of the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem just before his crucifixion, as crowds waved palm branches, sang ”Hosannah,” and covered his path with the branches.

Donkeys

Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem. Unlike the Roman emperors, who rode horses and led military parades, Jesus rode in on a donkey in a statement of peace, humility and solidarity with the people.

Processions

When Jesus led a procession into Jerusalem before his Crucifixion, it was in contrast to the Roman army’s own procession into the city from the other side.
“There were two parades, from each side of the city,” said the Rev. Shannon Webster, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham. “One was a show of Roman power, meant to keep an occupied people in their place. The other was following the prince of peace, and that was for the people. That was about justice and love.”

IN MY OPINION

IN MY OPINION…

THE suicide RATE IN THE USA IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States, according to the Center for Disease Control. Many suicides are influenced by the world stage. With our media reporting on a minute by minute time frame, we are bombarded with horrific acts of violence. Much of this violence is currently in the name of a belief, jihad, or whatever you wish to call it. It’s a situation where the victim seeks notoriety after his act of suicide. This act wants many people to remember him. Or, in the jihadist paradise, a bunch of virgins will be given him after his death for his reward.

IN MY OPINION…

The co-pilot of the Germanwings plane that crashed into a mountain in France killed 150 people, including himself. This act was deliberate. He flew directly into a mountain after locking the flight captain out of the cockpit so he couldn’t be stopped. We will never know for sure, but it has been said that he recently converted to Islam. If that is true, then this suicide was probably jihad, in the name of Islam. If not, it’s my opinion that he may well have been influenced by the jihadist movement.

IN MY OPINION…

As a country we must come to terms with this fanatical movement to conquer our faith and our country. It’s time to stop sweeping it under the table. We must talk about this and teach Americans that our way of life is at stake. We must stand up for our faith and country before it is too late.

IN MY OPNION

IN MY OPNION……

America now has the largest number of uneducated, pot smoking, lazy young people than ever.

Most do not have enough education and common sense to get a well-paying job to support themselves and or a family. They instead want 15.00 and hour to flip burgers,  live at home and let the parents take care of them their wives and children with much of the cost passed on to the older people. Surprise a time will come when you will run out of other people’s money or the other people will say,

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

How to Receive Jesus Christ & Know you Have Eternal Life

How to Receive & Know you Have Eternal Life

Admit – that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior (Rom 6:23)

Abandon – self-effort and realize that you can not be saved by your works or your own efforts (Acts 16:31)

Accept freely Christ’s payment for your sins, required of the Father (John 3:16)

Acknowledge Jesus Christ as your personal lord and Savior (Acts 4:12)

You can now never be lost again and can live forever (John 10:28-29).  No one has any guarantee that they will live beyond tomorrow and if you die without Christ, for you, the end is now; and for all eternity. Make the decision today.  His return has never been closer than it is today. No one knows exactly when Jesus returns but Hebrews 3:7-15 and II Corinthians 6:2 say that, Today is the accepted day of salvation, and now is the day of salvation. Tomorrow may never come.  Come today,  before it is to late.

What Exactly Is the Good News of Easter Sunday?

Easter Sunday is approaching. You prayed for a door of opportunity, and it has opened. You have a chance to tell your best friend the one message she needs most. Suddenly, the question comes to your mind, “What exactly is that message?” At a religious convention when 60 people were asked the question, “What is the gospel?” only one had a biblical answer. If the gospel message is not clear in your mind, it won’t be in your friend’s, either.

Let’s first examine what the message is not.

It’s not about how to find happiness. Many non-Christians are the happiest they have ever been – so happy that they don’t see the need for Christ. On the other hand, it’s possible to be a Christian and be unhappy. Believers often become discouraged because of persecution or the agonizing hardships of life, and can experience loneliness or even depression.

The gospel message is not about reconciling human relationships. God wants a man and a woman to experience marriage, not just a merger of two people who live under the same roof. But a husband and wife who have a solid marriage will still be separated from God forever if they are unbelievers. Furthermore, even couples who know Christ face marital struggles at times.

Nor does the message concern how God can help you out of a problem you face, whether it is a jail sentence or an unavoidable job loss. Circumstances before conversion don’t necessarily change after you come to Christ. A murderer may still face the executioner’s needle. A person who has lost a job may still incur debt.

The gospel message is bigger than that. It is defined in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 and can be reduced to 10 words, “Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead.” That’s the gospel.

What characterizes that gospel? First, it points to something Christ has done – not something he will do. It’s past, proven, done. The death and resurrection of Christ leave a non-Christian without justifiable defense. If someone looks at the catastrophes of today and questions God’s love, he has to explain away the cross. If a lost person questions whether Christ was God, he has to explain away the resurrection. Moreover, an unbeliever may be disappointed with the actions of Christians today. But the message has nothing to do with what Christians are doing. It deals with what Christ has already done – his death and resurrection.

The clear message of the gospel also highlights the depth of Christ’s love. He didn’t just die. He died for me, just as he did for you. 1 Corinthians 15:3 says, “For my sins.” He didn’t die to show me how to live – giving instead of getting. He didn’t die to show me how to die – putting others first. His death was substitutionary. A sinless Savior took a sinner’s place. Had he not died, I would have to suffer my own punishment. Amazing love!

Next, the clear gospel message puts the emphasis where it needs to be – eternal life in heaven not temporal life on earth. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 11:25-26).

God is not offering earth with heaven thrown in. He’s offering heaven with earth thrown in. When I know him, it doesn’t matter how, when or where I die. I am going to be in his presence forever. The span of our lives on earth is brief and uncertain. The length of life with him is eternal. Even though the circumstances in my life today may be very difficult, as a believer I know he’ll be with me. But when I die, I’ll be with him where there is no pain or problems.

One final thing characterizes the gospel message: the simplicity of the response. How can you benefit from Christ’s death and resurrection and receive eternal life? Trust in Christ, the one who did it all, as the only way to heaven. Jesus promised, “He who believes in me has everlasting life” (John 6:47). Eternal life is free.

If we’re confused about the gospel on Easter (or any other day), it’s because we’ve made difficult what God intended to be simple. Christ died for us and arose. Trust in him alone. Receive his gift of eternal life. As you recognize the clarity of the message, it ought to cause you to ask not only “Who can I tell?” but “How many can I tell?”
